About the film
Heretic is a psychological horror film, written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. It stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as Mormon missionaries who visit the home of an eccentric man, Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), after he expresses interest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Reed's intentions become evidently more sinister when they enter his home.
From the minute they step through that door, the atmosphere shifts as Mr. Reed’s curious questions become unsettling, catching the girls off guard subtly shifting the power dynamic. It soon becomes clear that Mr. Reed isn’t what he seems, and escape isn’t as simple as opening a door.
The masterminds of A Quiet Place return with Heretic, a twisty thriller that proves Scott Beck and Bryan Woods really can write dialogue when they want to.
"Heretic" is Grant’s his first foray into horror since "The Lair of the White Worm" 36 years ago, for his performance he received Best Actor nominations at the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards, and the BAFTA Awards, while Beck and Woods received an Independent Spirit Awards nomination for Best Screenplay.
